In more good news for Microsoft, after Windows 11’s market share peaked in July, the same has now happened for its Edge browser. According to the latest data from Statcounter, Microsoft Edge recorded its highest-ever market share in July, reaching 13.75%, a 0.4% increase from the previous month and a 2.99% increase year-over-year.
After hitting its highest market share of 12.96% in January, Edge’s share dipped slightly over the next two months. However, from April to July, its share has consistently increased, setting new records each month:
- January: 12.96%
- February: 12.76%
- March: 12.7%
- April: 12.97%
- May: 13.14%
- June: 13.35%
- July: 13.75%
Google Chrome remains the market leader with a dominant 64.72% share, a 0.03 percentage point increase from June.
In third place is Apple Safari with 9.1%, a 0.07 percentage point increase month-over-month.
Following is Mozilla Firefox with 6.64% (+0.11 points). While it’s unlikely to make a significant dent in the top players, Firefox could gain some users as Chrome discontinues support for Manifest V2 extensions.
The end of Manifest V2 support will cause some extensions, particularly content blockers, to lose certain capabilities. In fact, the developer of uBlock Origin, one of the most popular content blockers, has recommended users switch to uBlock Lite, a Manifest V3-compliant content blocker with fewer features. Firefox has no plans to stop supporting Manifest V2, so this could be an advantage in attracting users from Chrome.
Finally, Opera rounds out the top 5 with 2.46% (-0.45 points).
